Company launches search for successor while strengthening long-term growth plans
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced that its brand president, David Herrera, has stepped down from his role, prompting a leadership transition within the company.
A comprehensive search process is already underway to identify his permanent successor.
During the interim period, Harry Sommer, President and CEO of parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) will assume the position of NCL Brand President in addition to his existing responsibilities.
Company representatives described Herrera’s departure as part of a broader “strategic leadership change,” emphasising that NCL is in a strong position to continue executing its long-term growth plans.
To ensure a seamless transition, NCL has retained a leading international executive search firm charged with identifying the next individual to guide the brand forward.

Sommer praised Herrera’s decade-long contributions to NCL and wished him well in his next chapter, while expressing enthusiasm about working more closely with the brand team during the leadership transition.
He emphasised that NCL is “well-positioned for meaningful growth,” pointing to seven new ships on order, upgrades at its private island Great Stirrup Cay, and an expanded presence in the Caribbean.
Herrera, who held senior roles across sales, strategy and brand operations, is credited with strengthening NCL’s commercial reach and customer engagement during a dynamic period for the cruise industry.
The leadership change comes as parent company NCLH reported record second-quarter revenue of US$2.5 billion in 2025, up 6% year-on-year.
