Carrier growth and tourism events drive 3% uplift
Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (DOH), ranked the world’s second-best by Skytrax in 2025, recorded its busiest-ever quarter between July and September, handling 14.3 million passengers.
August proved to be a standout month for the airport, setting a new record as its “busiest month” on record with more than 5 million passengers handled, while December 20 was the busiest day of the year, recording 172,500 passengers. Aircraft movements also increased by 1% to 282,975, with on-time performance reaching an impressive 85%.
Growth was driven by a 5.4% rise in point-to-point traffic, with 13.5 million travellers flying to and from Doha, fuelled by global events, alongside sustained high seat occupancy and an expanded network serving more than 200 destinations through 57 airline partners.
Several new carriers joined HIA’s roster in 2025, including Virgin Australia, Georgian Airways and Smartwings. The airport’s anchor carrier, Qatar Airways, supported the growth with route expansions to Aleppo in Syria and The Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, alongside 83 additional frequencies to 15 destinations for winter 2026.

Continuous infrastructure upgrades, including integrating Concourses D and E with 17 new gates, enhanced passenger flow and transfer efficiency throughout the year. HIA also maintained a 98% passenger satisfaction rate in 2025, even during record traffic surges.
Growth was also driven by Qatar’s booming tourism sector, thriving trade connections and flagship international events such as the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix in Lusail, which achieved record attendance last year with 162,972 visitors, an increase of almost 8,000 on 2024.
Growth was also driven by Qatar’s booming tourism sector, thriving trade connections and flagship international events such as the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Grand Prix. The country welcomed 5.1 million international visitors in 2025 – its highest on record – including 674,000 in December alone, a 16% year-on-year increase driven by major events such as the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025.
The tourism boom translated into robust hospitality performance. Room nights rose 8.6% to 10.8 million, while accommodation revenue climbed 12% to QAR8.3 billion (US$2.3 billion). Qatar’s total hotel inventory expanded to 42,469 keys, nearly half in the five-star segment, supported by high-profile openings including Rosewood Doha in Lusail and Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers Doha.
Doha was named the world’s second-best layover city in 2025 by AllClear Travel Insurance, as Qatar’s stopover appeal also translated into a 165% year-on-year increase in H1 2025 for the Discover Qatar Stopover Programme, which sold more than 100,000 room nights.
