Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism celebrated at Globus Awards
Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) provided the world’s best travel agency service in 2024.
As in 2023, DET claimed first place in the 'Best Service to Travel Agencies – Tourist Board' category at the Globus Awards 2024, which took place 30 January 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Dominican Republic was voted into second place for the third year in a row, while Malta replaced Spain in third place.
This achievement marks the fourth time winning first place in this category since 2018, underscoring DET’s world-leading position in serving its valued travel partners.
Managed from Dubai through 36 brand offices, DET’s international Operations covers more than 60 countries and involves relationships with more than 3,000 travel trade stakeholders.
Throughout 2024, DET embarked on a series of initiatives to elevate Dubai’s profile in the global tourism landscape, including rolling out 45 international roadshows and workshops, delivering multiple campaigns and leveraging relationships with popular global personalities, such as Colombian singer JBalvin for two music videos filmed in the city.
Among other notable campaigns, Dubai: A Whole New You featured father-daughter Bollywood duo Saif and Sara Ali Khan; Who’s Ready? Starred Korean actors Park Shin-Hye and Park Hyung-Sik, and This Calls For Dubai promoted the city’s cross-generation appeal to audiences across the GCC.

Committed to the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33 in driving visitation growth, DET recently joined forces with IHG Hotels & Resorts and also with Emaar Hospitality Group to collaborate on marketing and promotional campaigns, implement strategies that highlight Dubai’s attractions and experiences, and introduce new experiences that attract a diverse range of travellers.
Dubai welcomed 16.79 million visitors in the first 11 months of 2024, a 9% increase on the same period in 2023, data published by DET shows. Western Europe was the top source region, accounting for 20%, followed by South Asia with 17% and GCC countries 15%.
This year, 2025, began well with Dubai being named the top global destination for the fourth time the fourth successive year in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Dubai was also named the world’s cleanest city and the safest cruise ship stopover worldwide.
The winners of the 'Best Service to Travel Agencies – Tourist Board' at the Globus Awards were determined by the votes of 2,400 travel agents in autumn 2024, alongside a jury of travel experts.
More than 250 tourism professionals gathered in Frankfurt on 30 January 2025 to celebrate the industry’s finest.
