Fatal floods in Oman; airports issue warning

Oman's National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) has reported that 17 people have died in flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in the country since Sunday 14 April.

Due to the unstable weather conditions, workers in the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah and Al Dakhiliyah were advised to work remotely where possible and schools were temporarily closed.

As rain reached the UAE on Tuesday 16 April, schools were also closed and people were warned to avoid unnecessary journeys, while some hotel facilities faced flooding issues.

In response to the weather advisory issued by The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), local airline schedules may also be impacted.

Communicating via its social media channels, Dubai International airport (DXB) has advised passengers to check their latest flight status with their airlines and to allow for extra time to arrive at the airport.

Flydubai has released an update regarding its operations, stating that heavy rain and hail may impact its flight schedule, prompting the airline to take precautionary measures to minimise disruption for passengers. Passengers are advised to stay updated on flight statuses through Flydubai's website.

Unstable weather conditions in the region are expected to continue until Wednesday 17 April.
