Sommerfeld stands out for its "ingredient-led pared-down" approach
Frankfurt’s culinary scene reached a new milestone in June, as the city was awarded a new Michelin star at the 2025 Michelin Guide Germany ceremony, held at the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in the city’s botanic gardens.
The event, which saw Germany achieve a record high of 341 starred establishments, revealed 37 newly-starred restaurants, including Sommerfeld in Frankfurt, which was awarded one star for its "ingredient-led and pared-down" approach.
With this addition, Frankfurt now has 10 Michelin-starred restaurants for 2025, all holding one star. The city has yet to secure a two- or three-star distinction.
Sommerfeld is led by acclaimed chefs Matthias Scheiber and Milica Trajkovska Scheiber and occupies the former home of Weinsinn, the pair’s long-standing Michelin-starred restaurant.
The restaurant, which opened in September 2024, fuses the spirit of Weinsinn and their former venture Gustav, into a fresh, ingredient-driven concept.
The airy Bauhaus-inspired interior provides the backdrop for a five-course set menu, where seasonal dishes are pared down to their essence, such as grilled pointed cabbage with fermented mushroom broth and smoked egg yolk.
Wine pairings, predominantly from Germany and France are expertly curated, and a spacious wine shop in the basement adds to the experience.
Michelin inspectors praised Sommerfeld for its “highly distinctive seasonal dishes” and “ingredient-led, pared-down" approach as well as the direct engagement of chefs in presenting courses to the diners.
The restaurant’s "inviting and friendly" atmosphere and forthcoming "helpful recommendations" also helped secure its debut star.

For 2025, Frankfurt’s Michelin one-star roster also includes Seven Swans, Erno’s Bistro, Bidlabu, Main Tower Restaurant & Lounge, Carmelo Greco, Masa Japanese Cuisine and Villa Merton, covering cuisines including modern French and German to Italian and Japanese influences.
Erno’s Bistro has retained its Michelin star for 25 years, making it the city’s longest-standing starred restaurant. Meanwhile, Seven Sisters has held its Michelin star for a decade with a fully vegan fine dining menu in a seven-floor building, the city’s narrowest, featuring an outdoor terrace and views over the River Main.
The 2025 Michelin Guide Germany lists a record 341 starred establishments, including 12 three-star restaurants, with two new additions in 2025, 47 two-star venues (five new) and 282 one-star restaurants, 30 new to the list.
The two restaurants awarded three Michelin stars in 2025 include Haerlin in Hamburg, celebrated for Christoph Rüffer’s refined modern European cuisine and technical mastery, and Tohru in der Schreiberei in Munich, recognised for Tohru Nakamura’s innovative blend of Japanese and European flavours.
