IHG to open ultra-luxury Regent brand in Saudi’s Makkah

The 330-key hotel combines Holy Mosque views and spiritual wellbeing experiences

IHG Hotels & Resorts will open its ultra-luxury Regent brand in Saudi Arabia’s Holy City of Makkah.

IHG and AIMS Holding have signed an agreement to brand and operate the property, which is already under construction, and is located just steps from Al Haram Al Sharif.

Regent Makkah will offer unobstructed views of the Holy Mosque, Masjid al-Haram and Al Kaaba.

"We are excited to launch Regent Makkah, a brand that embodies the pinnacle of luxury and hospitality,” said Haitham Mattar, Managing Director, India, Middle East & Africa, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

Designed to elevate the guest experience in Makkah, Mattar said the property will “set a new standard for luxury accommodations in the region”.

The hotel will have 330 rooms and suites, including a presidential suite offering panoramic views of the Haram and Al Kaaba.

It will also feature speciality restaurants and a spa offering wellness experiences for both relaxation and spiritual wellbeing.

Regent Makkah joins a number of luxury hotels opening in the Holy City over the next few years, with the Four Seasons and The Ritz-Carlton opening in Rua Al Madinah, a mega project located next to the Prophet’s Mosque.

Religious tourism plays a crucial role in Saudi’s economic diversification plan, with more than 18.5 million pilgrims from outside the kingdom performing Hajj and Umrah in 2024, and the country having a goal to attract 30 million by 2030.

The kingdom’s total hotel rooms more than doubled in Q3 2024, soaring from 214,600 to 443,200, with plans for 320,000 additional hotel rooms by 2030. An estimated 221,000 of those will be located in the Holy Cities.
