IndiGo launches new direct flights from Southern India to Abu Dhabi, UAE

Direct services from Mangaluru, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli start 9 August 2024

Indian airline IndiGo is set to launch direct flights to Abu Dhabi in the UAE from three South Indian destinations: Mangaluru, a major commercial centre in Karnataka, and Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli, famous tourist spots in Tamil Nadu.

Mangaluru-Abu Dhabi flights will operate daily from 9 August 2024. Starting 10 August, flights from Coimbatore to Abu Dhabi, will operate three times a week. Tiruchirappalli-Abu Dhabi flights will operate four times a week from 11 August 2024.

Nestled between the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, the coastal city of Karnataka, Mangaluru, is home to temples, beaches and ancient mosques at the confluence of the gushing Gurupura and Netravati rivers. The city attracts lots of entrepreneurs and IT professionals in addition to tourists, which come for the wellness retreats, yoga centres, art and culture hubs and quaint churches.

Situated on the banks of the river Noyyal, Coimbatore is the second largest city of India's southernmost state of Tamil Nadu after Chennai. It's known as both the textile capital and the Manchester of South India and it serves as an entry and exit point to the neighbouring state of Kerala.

These new routes will further strengthen IndiGo’s international connectivity, with non-stop flights connecting the UAE capital to key cities in Southern India. Recently, the airline also announced new direct flight between Bengaluru and Abu Dhabi, which will operate six times a week from 1 August 2024.

Head of Global Sales, IndiGo, Vinay Malhotra said: “With the addition of these flights, IndiGo now operates 89 non-stop flights a week to Abu Dhabi from 13 cities in India. These flights will provide smooth and convenient options for business as well as leisure travel to the UAE."
