UAE emirate to launch seventh wellness destination with off-grid trailers
Following the success of eco-retreats ranging from luxury tents to futuristic domes, Sharjah in the UAE is adding the Nomad concept to its east coast, featuring 20 solar-powered luxury trailers.
Located in a mountain valley near the Kalba Nature Reserve, Nomad is due to open later in 2025 and promises a return to ‘slow travel’ with trailers being off-grid, having no wifi and a lights-off policy for guests to enjoy the night sky.
Nomad is part of the Sharjah Collection, joining six other equally quirky eco-resorts in the emirate, built at a cost of AED300 million by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, also known popularly as Shurooq.
With 154 units in total, ranging from luxurious tented retreats to futuristic moon domes, the resorts span coastal mangroves, desert dunes and heritage villages.

Shurooq says the investment taps into the boom in wellness travel, which is expected to be worth US$1 trillion by the end of this year as travellers reconnect with nature and culture.
Sharjah – which borders Dubai and stretches from the east to west coast of the UAE – saw hotel guests rise 11% in 2024, in part attracted by the boutique properties springing up across the emirate.
Those include eco-retreats in the Sharjah Collection that include The Kingfisher Retreat with 40 sea-facing, luxury tents and glamping hotspot Moon Retreat with 10 futuristic domes and six premium tents.
History lovers will appreciate Al Rayaheen Retreat with its 19 restored homes, redesigned in collaboration with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, while Najd Al Meqsar features seven luxury heritage units in 100-year-old homes, access to a 300-year-old fort and hiking trails to Al Rafisah Dam.
In the desert, Al Faya Retreat is a boutique offering with just five rooms and Al Badayer Retreat, in Sharjah’s iconic red dunes, has 46 units that deliver an elevated desert experience.
Sharjah’s desertscape recently earned the UAE its second Unesco World Heritage Site accolade, holding one of the world’s oldest and most continuous records of early human presence, dating back more than 210,000 years.
Shurooq is also partnering with The Lux Collective to introduce hospitality brands to Sharjah Sustainable City later this year.
LUX Al Bridi Resort will have 35 luxury safari-style tented retreats located in the 800-hectare Al Bridi Reserve, while LUX Al Jabal will offer a private beach, fine dining and a spa.
