Private-island resort will feature 56 beach and overwater villas
Nobu Hospitality has revealed plans to open its first-ever property in the Maldives, on the private island of Munyafushi in Laamu Atoll, in partnership with Sarat International.
Nobu Hotel, Residences and Restaurant Maldives will comprise 26 one- and two-bedroom beach villas and 30 one- and two-bedroom overwater villas, all reflecting the brand’s Japanese-inspired aesthetic with clean lines, natural materials and a calm, understated palette that blends into the island’s lush landscapes and ocean views.
At the heart of the development will be a Nobu restaurant on its own private island, featuring a bar and lounge and serving Chef Nobu’s signature Japanese-Peruvian cuisine.
Resort facilities will include a full-service spa, fitness centre, diving centre, tennis courts, event spaces and a main swimming pool.

The project will also offer 10 ultra-limited Nobu Island Estate Residences, each on its own private island with bedrooms, bathrooms, pavilion-style living and dining areas, private beachfronts and direct ocean access. Residence owners will have access to a private yacht, as well as all of the hotel’s amenities.
Nobu Hospitality said it aims to create a “superior island experience rather than follow a formulaic approach”, where design, world-class dining and the natural environment “harmoniously coexist”.
Trevor Horwell, CEO of Nobu Hospitality, said the Maldives had “long been on our radar for a unique resort concept”, adding: “As part of the new generation of Maldives hotels, we aim to set a new standard of rarity.”
This unveiling follows the recent debut of Nobu Hotel & Restaurant Roma, expanding a portfolio that now spans more than 40 hotels worldwide. Nobu Hotel Riyadh continues to serve as the brand’s Middle East flagship, ahead of further regional openings in Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia, Muscat in Oman’s capital and on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.
