Off-grid destination features 20 solar-powered luxury trailers, a food truck and hiking routes
Sharjah’s newest eco-luxury retreat, Nomad, has opened in Kalba on the emirate’s east coast, featuring 20 solar-powered trailers. The property joins the Sharjah Collection portfolio of six other low-impact destinations set across key natural and heritage sites, from luxury tents in the mangroves to desert domes under the stars.
Set within a mountain valley near Kalba Nature Reserve, Nomad is an off-grid destination, designed around the principles of ‘slow travel’, with no WiFi and a nightly lights-off policy that encourages guests to disconnect and enjoy the night sky.
All trailers are equipped with king-size beds, rain showers and yoga mats, and each comes with a private outdoor seating area and firepit. The on-site Nomad food truck offers all-day dining, serving nourishing dishes from sunrise breakfasts to sunset dinners.
Nomad’s design draws on natural materials and a hybrid energy system that integrates solar power to sustain its off-grid operations. Following a low-density development model, the solar-powered trailers are positioned along the site’s natural contours, minimising environmental impact while keeping the surrounding mountainscape at the heart of the guest experience.
The retreat is supported by an outdoor-focused infrastructure, including 7.44km of hiking trails – one leading towards Kalba’s peaks – alongside 4.39km of dedicated mountain biking routes, complemented by activities such as birdwatching, outdoor yoga and guided stargazing.
Developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, the Sharjah Collection represents an investment of AED300 million across seven eco-retreats, comprising 174 units set within coastal mangroves, desert dunes and heritage villages. Existing properties include Kingfisher Retreat, featuring 40 sea-facing luxury tents within Kalba’s mangroves, and Moon Retreat in Mleiha, which offers 10 domes and six tents for glamping-style stays in the desert.

UAE launches winter 2025-26 tourism campaign
The launch of Nomad comes as outdoor and eco-focused tourism continues to gain traction across the UAE, with several new accommodations expanding the sector’s low-impact offering. In Fujairah, just-opened Parvara provides an all-inclusive, off-grid retreat designed for immersion in nature, while Ennismore’s Our Habitas brand is introducing glamping caravan stays in Hatta.
Extending this nature-focused pipeline, Shurooq is collaborating with The Lux Collective on upcoming projects in and around Sharjah Sustainable City: LUX Al Bridi Resort will offer safari-style tented accommodation within the 800-hectare Al Bridi Reserve, and LUX Al Jabal, a clifftop resort overlooking the Gulf of Oman with a private beach, spa and elevated dining experiences.
Further developments in the pipeline include the UAE’s first cross-emirate hiking trail linking Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, and Dubai’s inaugural recreational vehicle (RV) route, which will establish a network of serviced parks and camping stations to support the growing demand for outdoor travel experiences.
