Orient Express La Minerva will occupy former palace

Housed in a palace originally built in 1620, luxury hotel Orient Express La Minerva is due to open its stylish doors in Rome in spring 2025.

Just minutes from landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain and Pantheon, the five-star property promises to encapsulate the glamour and elegance of the Orient Express – an Accor brand.

Overlooking the storied Piazza della Minerva, the hotel will feature 93 rooms and suites, ranging from 25 to 235 square metres, a spa and rooftop restaurant and bar, with views over the Eternal City’s landmarks.

There will be 36 suites in total, with the pinnacle being the Orient Express Suite, which comes with a sumptuous living and dining space, sweeping views of the Pantheon and dedicated butler services.

The original palace was transformed into a luxury hotel in 1811 and became a favourite destination for those fortunate to embark on the ‘Grand Tour’.

Now, the property is being reimagined by renowned architect Hugo Toro. Combining original Roman columns and sculptures with touches of classic art deco and “contemporary elegance”, the revamped decor features rich marble, wooden floors and bespoke Italian linens.

As well as rooftop restaurant Voliera, which pairs modern Mediterranean cuisine with views of St. Peter’s Dome, there will be a panoramic Japanese restaurant on the terrace and two ground floor bars including an intimate speakeasy serving inventive cocktails.

The spa will include hammam baths, and there will be two meeting rooms and a ballroom.
