Saudi Arabia’s NEOM will have eco-friendly electric vertical transport systems

Cutting-edge technology will be used to establish an emission-free, efficient transport network

Saudi Arabia’s NEOM development project and urban mobility company Volocopter, have established a joint venture to design, implement and operate the world’s first bespoke public ‘vertical mobility system’.

The joint venture will allow NEOM to implement a sustainable mobility system completely powered by renewable energy.

The project will facilitate air taxi and vertical logistics services, fully aligned with the zero-emission public transit system in NEOM. The system will feature an open eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) ecosystem that can be used for logistics, emergency response services and tourism.

NEOM has placed an order for 15 Volocopter aircraft and aims to launch initial flight operations within the next three years.

The establishment of eVTOLs are a crucial part of NEOM’s mobility strategy as they don’t require a large amount of surface infrastructure, such as road construction, and therefore help preserve the environment.
