Island nation beats Bali and Maldives as top choice for romantic getaways
Mauritius has been voted the Best Honeymoon Destination in the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2025.
The island nation, 1,100 miles off the east coast of Africa, beat romantic getaways Bali and the Maldives to claim the top spot. Hoi An and Phuket also made the top five honeymoon destinations list.

"Our island offers more than just beautiful beaches. It's a destination where luxury meets authenticity, creating perfect moments for couples starting their life journey together,” said Richard Duval, Minister of Tourism.

Most famous for its white-sand beaches, the Indian Ocean island is also renowned for its diving. Marine parks at Blue Bay and Balaclava are perfect for snorkelling, while scuba diving courses are available at hotels and certified centres around the island. Beyond the beaches, attractions include the '7 Coloured Earth', a compelling multi-coloured natural rock landscape in Chamarel.
Hotels on the East African island feature a wide range of services and experiences for couples, with many offering wedding planning services. There are also several adults-only hotels. Fresh from an extensive renovation, Shangri-La Le Touessrok is located on its own private island and offers butler service and an array of experiences, from vintage wine tasting to honey harvesting.

With visa-free entry for GCC nationals, and just a six-hour flight away, the island is an accessible exotic destination. Emirates offers a double-daily direct service to Mauritius from Dubai, while Air Seychelles recently launched its non-stop flights between Abu Dhabi and Seychelles with continuing same-plane service to Mauritius.
Mauritius welcomed 1.38 million visitors in 2024, with France and the UK being the largest source markets.
