Mesopotamia Express takes tourists 650 miles from Ankara to Diyarbakir
The Mesopotamia Express is the newest tourist train crossing Turkey, travelling from the Turkish capital of Ankara to the eastern province of Diyarbakir.
The sleeper train takes 24 hours to travel the 653-mile journey, passing through Kayseri, Sivas, Malatya, Elazığ and Bingöl. The route includes three-hour breaks in Kayseri and Malatya and a four-hour stop in Elazığ.
During stopovers, passengers can visit Unesco World Heritage Sites as well as castles, mosques, museums, souks, bazaars and Turkish baths.
Passengers complete the journey at Diyarbakir, famous for its Roman walls and historic houses on the banks of the River Tigris.

The Mesopotamia Express has nine sleeping cars and one dining carriage and has a maximum capacity of 180 passengers.
The cabins sleep two people. Amenities within the cabins include a fridge, a sink, a wardrobe and heating.
Tickets for a one-way journey start from US$280 for a sleeper cabin for two.
The launch of the service is seen as a means of diversifying tourism within the country and builds on the popularity of Turkey’s existing Touristic Eastern Express, which connects Ankara with Kars, a historic city located near the borders of Georgia and Armenia.
