Dream of the Desert carriage mock-up unveiled at F119 in Riyadh
Saudi Arabia’s first ultra-luxury train, Dream of the Desert, has made its official debut at the ninth edition of Future Investment Initiative (FII9) in Riyadh, where developers have revealed a mock-up carriage showcasing the train’s design and onboard experience.
Developed by Italian company Arsenale SpA in collaboration with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR), the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services, the Transport General Authority (TGA), the Ministry of Culture and the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), is the kingdom’s newest high-end travel experience, combining luxury travel with cultural immersion.
Scheduled to launch its first journeys at the end of 2026, Dream of the Desert will feature 33 private suites, including two presidential suites, accommodating up to 66 guests.
The train will also house two restaurant cars and a Majlis lounge designed for social gatherings and relaxation.
Dining onboard will feature Michelin-level menus curated by local and international chefs, blending authentic Saudi flavours with global gastronomic influences, including Italian-inspired fusion dishes.
The interiors, designed by architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, Founder of Culture in Architecture, merge Saudi heritage with Italian craftsmanship.
Finely carved wood finishes, intricate weavings and desert-inspired hues, from sandy browns to oasis green, will be enhanced with the cinematic glow of Murano blown glass and gold accents, reflecting the richness of Saudi tradition.
When operations begin, the train will travel up to 1,300 kilometres along existing railway lines, departing from Riyadh on curated one- and two-night journeys.
Each itinerary will highlight Saudi’s diverse landscapes, from deserts to oases, and incorporate visits to Unesco World Heritage sites and hidden cultural treasures.
Guests can expect bespoke experiences onboard and off, from private performances to immersive excursions, alongside personalised services.
