UAE events set to continue, despite conflict, whatever the weather
Dubai World Cup (DWC) will take place this weekend as planned, in Meydan, a suburb of Dubai, despite ongoing conflict caused by the Israel-US-Iran war.
The world’s richest horse race will see award-winning thoroughbreds and their owners, trainers and jockeys gather on Saturday 28 March for a day of equestrian pursuits despite heightened regional tensions, as organisers press ahead with the globally renowned sporting spectacle.
Marking its 30th anniversary, the event will feature nine races and a total prize purse of US$30.5 million, including US$12 million for the headline contest, reaffirming its status as the richest race day in international horse racing.
Despite the geopolitical backdrop, officials have emphasised that safety and security measures are in place, with the emirate continuing to host major international events as scheduled.
Held annually since 1996, the DWC attracts elite competitors from around the world and forms the culmination of the Dubai Racing Carnival, drawing thousands of spectators as well as a global television audience.
