Abu Dhabi crowned world’s safest city for 9th consecutive year

Gulf coast countries dominate Numbeo’s top 10 listing

Abu Dhabi has claimed the world’s safest city for 2025, marking an extraordinary ninth consecutive year at the top, according to Numbeo’s 2025 Safety Index.

The emirate continues to lead among 382 cities worldwide with an impressive 88.4 score, reflecting a commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its residents and visitors.

Behind the city’s nearly decade-long reign is a combination of  advanced policing strategies, cutting-edge tech and community-focused safety initiatives.

Abu Dhabi Police has played a pivotal role in fostering a sense of security, with proactive measures that go beyond crime prevention to include traffic management and “emergency response readiness”.

“The authorities will continue to work towards consolidating the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence with the community,” said Major Sheikh Mohammed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police. 

UAE cities Dubai and Sharjah and Qatar capital Doha also made the top five, while Manama in Bahrain capital Manama and Oman capital Muscat featured in the top 10, highlighting the GCC region’s excellence in maintaining public safety.
