Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar will focus on a holistic wellness offering
Banyan Tree Group is to open Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar in early 2025 in Mexico’s Bacalar Lagoon region located in the southern part of Quintana Roo.
The $28 million, 40-key resort marks Banyan Tree Group’s sixth hotel in Mexico and third in the Yucatán region, where the group continues to expand its portfolio.
Situated 30 minutes north of the Belize border, Bacalar is known for its clear waters that the Mayans referred to as ‘the Lagoon of the Seven Colours’. The natural surroundings provide an ideal backdrop for the new Veya brand, which is centred around health and wellbeing.
Peter Hechler, Banyan Tree Group senior assistant vice-president, head of regional operations for the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas, said: “Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar, along with the soon-to-open Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe, will create a new category and concept of hospitality in Mexico that redefines luxury from a multisensory perspective. Modern travellers are actively seeking experiences on ‘the-path-less-travelled’, and as we continue to expand, we are looking to bring awareness to emerging destinations that are rich with history, culture and natural wonders.”
Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar is set in lush greenery
Banyan Tree Veya Bacalar will offer 35 villas and five residences “set within lush, dense greenery”. On-site facilities include a pool and a lakeside palapa for kayaking and paddle-boarding explorations. The resort will also be home to four dining concepts overlooking Bacalar Lagoon and a speciality restaurant set over the lake.
Extensive wellbeing programmes curated by dedicated consultants will aim to inspire guests to embark on a personalised wellbeing journey. They will have access to bespoke programmes with an emphasis on what the brand calls ’embodiment therapies’ based on Banyan Tree’s eight proprietary pillars of wellbeing that cover multidisciplinary modalities including sleep, dietary awareness, physical vitality and harmony with nature.
The Veya experience is led by certified multidisciplinary wellbeing hosts around a three-step protocol of Awareness, Discovery, and Sustenance. Created in direct response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Banyan Tree Veya aims to address a world with an urgent need for reconnecting mind and body on a daily basis.
