Services connect Abu Dhabi with Medan in Indonesia and Phnom Penh in Cambodia
UAE national carrier Etihad Airways has commenced flights to two new “culturally rich and diverse destinations” destinations in Southeast Asia, connecting Abu Dhabi with Medan in Indonesia and Phnom Penh in Cambodia.
The new services were among the 10 routes announced by Etihad in late 2024, as part of the airline’s largest-ever network expansion. With these additions, Etihad has now inaugurated nine of the 10 routes planned for 2025, with 21 more to follow.
The inaugural flights departed on 2 October to Medan in Sumatra and 3 October to the Cambodian capital, both operating at full capacity on Airbus A321LR aircraft.

Three-weekly flights to Medan
Operating three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the direct Abu Dhabi-Medan service offers convenient access to the Indonesian island of Sumatra, renowned for its lush rainforests, natural attractions and Unesco Global Geopark sites.
Flights depart Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) at 8:45pm, arriving at Kualanamu International Airport (KNO) at 6:45am the following morning.
The return service departs KNO at 8:55am, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 12:50pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Medan is also served by Qatar Airways direct from Doha, reflecting the growing interest in Indonesia among GCC travellers. The destination’s electronic visa-on-arrival scheme, available to citizens and residents of the GCC has further boosted demand.
Four-weekly flights to Phnom Penh
More well known as a destination, Phnom Penh is Cambodia’s cultural and historical capital, known for its traditional dances, Mekong river cruises and landmark Royal Palace.
Flights operate four times weekly, departing Abu Dhabi at 9:20pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and arriving at the newly opened Techo International Airport (KTI) at 7:20am the following day.
Return flights leave Phnom Penh at 8:40am and land in Abu Dhabi at 1:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Commenting on the expansion, Etihad Airways Chief Executive Officer Antonoaldo Neves said: “Both Sumatra and Phnom Penh offer a wealth of natural and man-made wonders for travellers to explore.”
Etihad Airways now serves 83 destinations across its global network as it continues expanding connectivity between Abu Dhabi and key international markets.
