Qatar Airways to reintroduce A380 on...

The aircraft will accommodate an additional 163 passengers daily

Starting 6 December 2022, Qatar Airways will be increasing passenger capacity on its flights to and from Perth, Australia with a larger aircraft.

Previously operated by the Boeing B777-300ER, passengers will now have a chance to journey on board an A380, featuring a three-class configuration of seating over two decks with a dedicated onboard premium lounge.

The aircraft has a capacity of 517 seats spread across the three cabins: eight First Class seats, 48 Business Class seats and 461 Economy Class seats.

During the tournament, which will take place 6 to 20 December 2022, flights from Doha will depart daily at 03:15, arriving in Perth at 19:15. The return leg will leave Perth at 21:50 and arrive in Doha at 04:15 the next day.

From 21 December 2022, flights will depart Doha earlier at 02:35 and arrive in Perth at 18:35. The flight back to Doha will depart later at 22:55 and arrive at 05:25.

As well as helping to meet demand during FIFA World Cup, this update in operations is part of the recent strategic partnership between Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia. The expanded codeshare significantly increases guest access to the networks, lounges and loyalty programmes of both airlines, bringing substantial benefits and new destinations to travellers.

Launched in September 2022, the partnership opens seamless travel to more than 150 destinations across the extensive Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia networks, creating a new gateway of travel between Australia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Commenting on the announcement, Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “We want to demonstrate our commitment to Australia by continuing the work we did during the pandemic to keep Australians connected. It is imperative for Australian travellers to feel welcome in our city, whether they are transiting through or visiting Doha.

"During the much anticipated FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, all flights to and from Perth will be scheduled taking into consideration football match timings so that all fans can enjoy the biggest event of the year.”
