Options placed for two additional ships and potential class “beyond Icon”
Royal Caribbean has confirmed an order for its fifth Icon class cruise ship as part of a 10-year agreement with Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku.
The agreement with the premier shipyard includes options on two more Icons (Icon 6 and Icon 7) and intriguingly prepares Royal Caribbean for “a new, game-changing class of ship beyond Icon”.
Icon 5 is due to be delivered in 2028, Icon 4 in 2027 and the third Icon ship – Legend of the Seas – scheduled to sail in summer 2026.
Royal Caribbean has brought forward Legend of the Seas’ inaugural sailing due to construction progressing ahead of schedule. The line will add three seven-night sailings on 11 July, 18 July and 25 July before the original scheduled launch date of 2 August 2026.
The new ships will join Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, with all Icons built by Meyer Turku.

Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group said the collaboration with Meyer Turku will “usher in a new era of innovation that will disrupt the vacation sector through 2036”.
“This is an exciting time for our company, and we are proud to launch this new stage in our history with our esteemed partners, Meyer Turku, the Finnish government, and the Finnish maritime cluster,” said Liberty.
The Meyer Turku shipyard has built 25 ships for Royal Caribbean since the mid-1990s, with each construction employing around 13,000 people and contributing a billion euros to the Finland economy each year.
Petteri Orpo, the Prime Minister of Finland, described the agreement as “excellent news for Finland”.
“The longstanding collaboration between Royal Caribbean Group and Meyer Turku will continue to have a significant positive impact on Finland’s economy, creating jobs across the country and energising our unique maritime ecosystem,” added Orpo.
