Vilu Reef will train 13 Maldivians in key hospitality roles
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef has introduced a new apprenticeship programme to equip young Maldivians with practical career skills in hospitality.
The initiative is delivered in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education through the SAILS Project, a World Bank–funded effort to boost youth employability and vocational training across the Maldives.
One of six Sun Siyam Resorts, Vilu Reef is extending its focus on sustainability and community development through this skills-transfer scheme supporting professional growth.
Thirteen apprentices in the inaugural six-month intake rotate across departments including diving, finance, engineering, culinary, and IT.
Along with hands-on roles, the programme offers technical workshops, mentorship from senior staff, and structured assessments aligned with national certifications.
Abdulla Thamheed, Vice President of Operations at Sun Siyam Resorts, said: “This is more than just training, it is a long-term investment in the future of Maldivian tourism.
“We are proud to collaborate with the Ministry to help build a generation of confident, capable professionals ready to lead our country’s signature industry with passion and pride.”

Separate from the group’s sustainability-driven Sun Siyam Cares platform, the programme highlights an ongoing commitment to talent development and career pathways for local youth.
Since opening its first resort in 1998, Sun Siyam Resorts has expanded its luxury portfolio to include six private-island properties across the Maldives and Sri Lanka, each blending Maldivian warmth with distinctive guest experiences.
Sun Siyam Vilu Reef features 103 villas, beachfront and overwater, with private pools, lush vegetation, a vibrant coral house reef, plus water sports and wellness facilities including a spa, beachside infinity pool, kids’ club, multiple dining options and cultural experiences.
