The Peninsula Istanbul earns ‘One to Watch’ accolade

World’s 50 Best Hotels winner ‘created excitement across industry’

The Peninsula Istanbul, in the historic district of Turkey’s Karaköy, has earned itself the ‘One to Watch Award’ in The World’s 50 Best Hotels awards 2024.

Officially opened in 2023 in the city’s Galataport development, The Peninsula Istanbul occupies a quartet of waterfront buildings in one of the oldest neighbourhoods.

The One to Watch Award is presented to a rising-star hotel that has made an impression on the 600-strong Academy and the wider industry and has been identified by the 50 Best team as having the potential to feature in a future edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels list.

This is the second of two accolades – alongside the No.3 Gin Art of Hospitality Award – to be announced prior to the official awards ceremony on 17 September 2024 at London’s historic Guildhall, where the list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels will be revealed.

The Peninsula Istanbul is made up of a small building complex, three of them protected historical landmarks that date back to the early 20th century.

The central building houses The Lobby, a carefully refurbished, glass-fronted heritage structure, which was Türkiye’s first modern cruise terminal built in the 1940s.

The 177 rooms include 138 elegant guest rooms and 39 lavish suites including The Peninsula Suite, one of the largest in the city. It includes a private hammam, gym, screening room, multiple balconies and a private rooftop pool.

Most of the rooms offer views of the Bosphorus and beyond to the rooftops of Istanbul’s famous Old Town.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels Head of Content, Emma Sleight, said: “We are thrilled to award The Peninsula Istanbul with the One to Watch accolade for 2024.

“Hotels of this stature and consideration don’t open every year and its launch created real excitement across the industry. The historic buildings have been adapted sensitively and seamlessly, without compromising their heritage.

“The Peninsula group is one of the oldest luxury hotel brands, having opened its first hotel in 1928, and their latest launch continues a legacy of excellence and sets the gold standard for what the future of hotels should be. It is because of this that The Peninsula Istanbul has won this award.”

Jonathan Crook, Managing Director of The Peninsula Istanbul, said: “The team and I at The Peninsula Istanbul are truly honoured and humbled to be recognised with the One to Watch Award by The World's 50 Best Hotels 2024.

“It's a tremendous validation of the incredible effort, dedication and passion that our team has poured into this property. We feel incredibly motivated by this recognition, and it strengthens our resolve to continue enhancing our guests’ experiences.”
