Top short-haul destinations to book for a long weekend getaway
UAE residents are set to enjoy a long weekend this September, following the official announcement of a public holiday to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed on social media that Friday, 5 September 2025, will be a paid holiday for private sector employees, creating a three-day weekend.
The occasion falls on 12 Rabi Al Awwal in the Hijri calendar and, in a rare instance, will not coincide with Saudi Arabia’s observance, as the kingdom’s moon sighting took place a day earlier than in the Emirates.
For travellers, and for travel advisors looking to capitalise on a surge in last-minute bookings, the extended weekend offers an ideal window for short-haul getaways.
