Mixed-use coastal destination to feature luxury desert tents and a marina
The UAE is set to develop a new tourism village in La Güera, Morocco’s southernmost coastal town. Adjacent to the Sahara Desert and Mauritania, the largely uninhabited region will be transformed into a mixed-use leisure destination designed to diversify the country’s tourism offerings.
Central to the masterplan will be a marina, while the wider village will feature a variety of accommodation and recreational facilities, including hotels, chalets and luxury desert tents. The development will include amenities such as swimming pools, water parks, wellness centres and sports fields, complemented by a selection of dining venues. Event and conference spaces will also be added to support future business and MICE tourism.
The UAE remains one of Morocco’s largest foreign investors, with total investments surpassing US$180 million by the first half of 2025, according to the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance. Recent joint ventures include a US$14 billion water and energy infrastructure programme led by an Emirati-Moroccan consortium.

Morocco targets GCC travellers in new summer campaign
These initiatives will further strengthen Morocco’s position as a leading global tourist destination. The North African nation saw record arrivals in 2025, welcoming 19.8 million visitors, up 14% compared to the previous year. The growth has been bolstered by a targeted summer campaign aimed at boosting inbound tourism from GCC markets, conducted in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourism Office (MNTO) and travel platform Wego.
Tourist activity is expected to accelerate further as Morocco prepares to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. Host cities will include the capital Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh, Tangier, Fez and Agadir, introducing football fans to destinations across the country.
Regional air connectivity to Morocco is also expanding, with carriers such as Saudi Arabia’s Flynas set to introduce direct flights to Rabat.
