Opening marks Iraq’s first internationally branded hotel to launch in 40 years
Accor has marked a major milestone in Iraq’s hospitality landscape with the debut of Mövenpick Hotel Al Zaytoon Baghdad, the first internationally branded hotel to open in Iraq in more than 40 years.
Set within the secure Green Zone, just 15 minutes from Baghdad International Airport and close to key business and government institutions, the five-star property is positioned as a new hub for corporate travellers and high-end leisure guests.
The hotel offers 197 contemporary rooms and suites, complemented by 72 serviced residential-style apartments designed for extended stays, including two-bedroom units accommodating up to six guests. Room rates start from AED1,320.
All rooms offer city views, walk-in showers, work desks and Nespresso machines, while the 261-square-metre Presidential Suite comes with a master bedroom, dining room, office, living area, dressing room, Jacuzzi and round-the-clock butler service.

There are six restaurants, bars and lounges, offering a mix of casual and more elevated options. Oasis, the all-day dining venue, combines global flavours and live cooking stations, while poolside Vibes serves salads, gourmet sandwiches, mocktails and shisha in a relaxed outdoor setting. In the lobby, guests can enjoy speciality coffee and pastries at the café or head to Mövenpick’s Chocolate and Ice-cream Lounge for signature sweet creations and the brand’s complimentary daily Chocolate Hour.
Evening socialising finds a sophisticated home at Churchill Cigar Lounge, where curated cigars are paired with artisan cheeses and canapés, while suite guests enjoy access to The Prime Lounge, a retreat high above the city serving continental breakfasts, light bites and afternoon tea.
Leisure facilities span three pools, including indoor and outdoor options plus a splash pool for children, supported by a 24-hour fitness centre and a spa with separate men’s and women’s areas. Wellness amenities include jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms and beauty services, while a supervised kids’ club keeps younger guests entertained. Flexible meeting venues and tailored services for events complete the offering.
In a LinkedIn post, Raki Phillips, Regional President – Middle East, Africa & Türkiye at Accor Hotels, said the debut reflects the "strength of our partnerships and the growing confidence in a market that is entering an exciting new chapter of development".
He added: “We look forward to seeing Movenpick Al Zaytooon become a trusted address for travellers, a vibrant hub for gatherings and a symbol of Baghdad’s continued momentum as a destination.”
