UAE airlines to promote digital payments among international visitors to Dubai
UAE airlines Emirates and Flydubai have joined Dubai’s Cashless Strategy, an initiative by Dubai Finance (DOF) to promote digital payments among international travellers.
Both carriers already process most transactions digitally, with Emirates offering 14 global payment gateways and Skywards — their joint loyalty programme — operating entirely as a digital currency.
Under the new partnership with DOF, the airlines will promote cashless spending through incentives for international visitors to choose digital over cash.
Joint activities will also include marketing campaigns, training sessions and pilot projects, all supporting Dubai’s goal to become a global leader in digital travel.

Launched in 2024, the Dubai Cashless Strategy aims to make 90% of all transactions digital in both government and private sectors by the end of 2026.
The initiative is expected to add AED 8 billion (US$2.2 billion) annually to the UAE economy by boosting fintech innovation and digital payment adoption.
Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and CCO said the partnership “represents a significant opportunity to accelerate digital payment adoption and support Dubai’s cashless vision by enabling seamless, secure solutions from the moment travellers book their tickets.”
Dubai is pushing ahead with its digital ambitions. Earlier this year, Emirates and Dubai Duty Free both signed agreements to explore accepting crypto payments such as Bitcoin from 2026.
Saudi Arabia is also aiming for a cashless society. Last year, upcoming airline Riyadh Air signed a deal with online shopping portal Noon to enable digital payments.
