Travelbag study shows Brits are willing to spend AED20,430 per person on their ideal getaway
Dubai has been named among the world’s top five dream destinations for UK travellers, according to new research from travel specialist Travelbag, with British holidaymakers willing to spend up to AED20,430 per person on their ultimate getaway.
If money were no object, the Maldives, New York and Kyoto topped the list of ultimate getaways, followed by the Great Barrier Reef and Dubai in the UAE.
Other bucket-list destinations featured in the Travelbag survey include the Seychelles, Thailand, Mauritius, St Lucia and Banff National Park in Canada.
Travelbag highlighted Dubai’s year-round appeal for UK travellers, citing its blend of indoor and outdoor attractions, from day through night, and from beaches and desert adventures to the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, and the finest of dining.
Earlier this year, the company also named the UAE the world’s safest country to explore after dark, with five of its cities – including Dubai – ranking in the global top ten.

While the Maldives claimed the top overall spot as a ’dream destination’ with 20% of the vote, New York was the leading choice for families (24%) and the Great Barrier Reef ranked highest among solo travellers.
The study also revealed that UK travellers are willing to spend an average of US$4,612 (AED16,940) per person on their dream holiday, covering flights, accommodation, dining and activities.
Nearly half (49%) admit they would go over budget for the perfect trip, with two-thirds (64%) looking to upgrade flights and hotel stays.
Baby Boomers were found to have the biggest travel budgets at US$5,563 (AED20,430), while Gen X spend the least at US$3,919 (AED14,370). Gen Z travellers are the most likely to splurge, with 57% saying they’d exceed their set budgets.
According to Natalie Watson, Brand and Marketing Manager at Travelbag, UK travellers are shifting towards value-led luxury.
“Holidays that hold personal value and create lasting memories are increasingly driving travel decisions,” she said.
