Matthew Mullan brings 30 years of experience to Oman’s iconic coastal destination
Hilton has appointed Matthew Mullan as General Manager for Hilton Muscat, Barr Al Jissah Resorts, the group’s three newly rebranded properties that form one of Muscat’s most “iconic resort destinations”.
Set along Oman’s dramatic coastline, Barr Al Jissah Resorts has been a landmark address in Muscat for more than two decades, having previously been operated by Shangri-La before transitioning to Hilton management.
With more than 30 years of international hospitality experience with Hilton, Mullan will oversee operations at DoubleTree by Hilton Muscat Al Waha, Hilton Muscat Al Bandar, and Al Husn Hotel Muscat – the resort’s exclusive clifftop retreat, which is slated to be reintroduced as a Waldorf Astoria property in 2027.
In his new role, Mullan will define the strategic direction and guest engagement strategy across the three properties, which collectively offer 680 keys. His remit includes driving brand alignment, enhancing guest experience, and ensuring operational excellence across a destination catering to families, leisure travellers, and luxury guests alike.
Mullan’s career with Hilton spans senior leadership roles across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean. He most recently served as General Manager of the London Hilton on Park Lane, one of the brand’s flagship hotels, and previously led Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, Hilton Barbados Resort, Hilton Malta, and Hilton Sharm El Sheikh, where he oversaw large-scale transformations and multi-property operations.
Commenting on the appointment, Niels Bormans, Group CEO of The Zubair Corporation, said Mullan’s “extensive global experience” with Hilton, combined with his proven leadership in managing complex resort operations, makes him “well-suited” to guide these properties as they build on their 20-year legacy while embracing a new era under Hilton’s diverse portfolio.

Mullan added: “This destination holds a special place in the region’s hospitality landscape. I look forward to working with our talented teams to celebrate that heritage, while delivering fresh, elevated experiences that reflect Hilton’s global standards and Oman’s unique sense of place.”
Located 45 minutes from Muscat International Airport, Barr Al Jissah is framed by the Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman, featuring a private beachfront, tennis courts, wellness spas, and PADI-certified dive centres shared across the resort complex.
Hilton continues to strengthen its portfolio across the GCC. The group recently opened its fourth property in Bahrain, the Hilton Bahrain City Centre Hotel & Residences, and has several Saudi Arabian openings lined up for 2026, including Spark by Hilton Makkah Aziziyah and Conrad Riyadh Laysen Valley.
