Passengers can check in with hand baggage weighing up to seven kilograms
Kuwait Airways has introduced a new Economy Class option for travellers who prefer to fly without checked luggage, becoming the first airline in the Middle East to launch a dedicated hand-baggage-only fare option.
The Economy Class – Zero Bag category allows passengers to carry a single item of hand baggage weighing up to seven kilograms, with no checked-in allowance.
The move places the airline among a group of international carriers, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines, that already offer similar fares on short-haul routes where passengers often travel light.
The airline said the Zero Bag fare is designed to provide more flexibility and value, particularly for short business trips or quick leisure journeys.
Passengers choosing the category can check in at self-service kiosks in Kuwait International Airport’s Terminal 4, or through staff at baggage counters, with boarding passes available directly at the terminal.

Chairman Abdulmohsen Al-Fagaan said the introduction reflects the carrier’s efforts to adapt to different preferences, offering passengers “new choices that align with their travel needs, especially short trips that do not require checked baggage,” he said.
Alongside the Zero Bag fare, Kuwait Airways’ Economy Class now encompasses three other categories.
Economy Saver includes one 32kg checked bag; Economy Regular provides two 23kg checked bags; and Economy Flexible offers the same allowance with additional loyalty rewards.

The launch reflects broader airline pricing trends, with Gulf carriers increasingly diversifying fare structures in response to changing habits.
Emirates has expanded its bundled fare options with varying baggage and seat inclusions, while Etihad has introduced its branded ‘Choice’ fares to segment Economy offerings.
