The announcements were officially presented at ATM by the secretary general of the GNTO
The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) has announced the signing of two strategic partnerships with Qatar Airways and online travel agent Wego.
The GNTO is partnering with Qatar Airways to promote new direct routes to Greece. New destinations include the island of Santorini, which will join high-demand flights to Athens and Mykonos to become the third destination to be served in Greece by the airline.
Along with launching additional routes, Qatar Airways and the GNTO will run a dedicated media campaign to raise awareness among audiences in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, with a focus on the unique experiences that Greece has to offer.
The first flight to Santorini is scheduled to depart from Doha’s Hamad International Airport on 7 June 2022
Speaking at the recently concluded Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, GNTO secretary general Dimitrios Fragakis said: “Greece is looking forward to a dynamic comeback to the Arabian market, which is set to be a priority to Greek tourism over the years.
“We have had the pleasure of meeting up with several leading travel brands during the fair and stressed that Greece offers many unique year-round experiences beyond the world renown sea and sun products. Greece also sports a variety of quality accommodation and an excellent city break opportunity for the Arabian audience.”

As part of its comprehensive approach to further build on Greece’s enduring appeal to GCC travellers, the GNTO has also partner with Wego on a multi-platform campaign running from June to August 2022.
Leveraging the GNTO’s ‘All You Want Is Greece’ campaign slogan, communications will target families and couples seeking uniquely Greek travel experiences, high-quality services, heritage and natural landscapes.
Fragakis added: “GNTO is excited to work with Wego, one of the most influential platforms for the Arabic audience, to promote Greece as a destination ideal for couples and solo travellers, but also for family vacations.
“Both Greece’s mainland and islands are top of mind for leisure holidays and relaxation, but they are also home to historic monuments. We’re very happy to be able to welcome Arab travellers looking to combine more than one destination and experience during their trip, planning on the Wego platform.”
Greece currently accounts for 2% of all outbound travel traffic from the UAE, and has removed all Covid-19 entry requirements, allowing all travellers to enter the country and visit restaurants, attractions and other public places without restriction.
