Thailand introduces online visa applications for Middle East residents

UAE, Saudi, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain residents to benefit from eVisa change

Thailand has extended its eVisa scheme to allow easier online applications from residents in 94 countries where the Asian nation has embassies and consulates general.

Residents in countries including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain can now apply for a visa online rather than submitting physical documents in person.

Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes this will make the visa process quicker and easier, boosting tourism to the country.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the country welcomed more than 35 million tourists in 2024. This is below the pre-pandemic high of 39 million achieved in 2019, but represents a significant rebound as the kingdom aims for 40 million visitors in 2025.

The aviation sector is playing its part in boosting Thai tourism, with seat capacity increasing 26% compared to 2023, reaching 47 million seats. This is partly due to airlines resuming routes and new routes being introduced from cities worldwide.

During the December high season, 311 additional flights were added, accounting for 70,000 seats. From the Middle East, Saudia introduced routes from Riyadh and Jeddah to Phuket.

Applications for the single-entry, 60-day Thai eVisa can be made via www.thaievisa.go.th
