New data reveals the world’s leading tourist destinations based on hotel occupancy – and a GCC country tops the list

The UAE’s tourism sector continues to lead in terms of performance when compared to tourist hubs across the world. The country’s hotels and tourism establishments achieved an occupancy rate of 64% between January and October 2021. This means the UAE outperformed the world’s top tourist destinations, including the United States.

According to data website Statista, the UAE is expected to attract more than 31 million tourists annually by 2025, and the travel and tourism sector is set to contribute AED280.6 billion to the UAE’s GDP by 2028.

In the first half of 2021, hotels attracted 8.3 million guests, a growth of 15%compared to the first half of last year. During the same period, the number of hotel nights booked by guests amounted to around 35 million, a growth of 30%. In addition, the average guest stay increased to 4.1 nights, with a growth of 12.5%.
