Mountain park and farm trail set to boost sustainable tourism across the sultanate
Two new tourist attractions have opened in Oman as part of efforts to expand tourism beyond coastal and city hotspots, focusing on nature- and agriculture-based experiences.
A park in Jabal Akhdar, known as the Green Mountain, and an eco trail on a farm in Salalah both began welcoming visitors on 18 August.
The Jabal Akhdar Park, located in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar within the rugged Hajar Mountain range, spans 20,000 square meters.
Developed at a cost of over OMR 1.1 million, it features a 1,000-square-meter children’s play area, sports paths, a café, a shop, and an electric games zone.
Visitor amenities include prayer rooms and restrooms, while an open-air theatre and 5,000 square meters of landscaped green space, with 150 trees and 400 shrubs, enhance the family-friendly atmosphere against the mountainous backdrop.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mansour Al Ghafili, Wali of Jabal Akhdar, said the park supports local businesses, creates jobs, and strengthens community life, aligning with plans to position Jabal Akhdar as a sustainable tourism hub.
The park follows last year’s opening of Celebration Square in Seih Qatna and will be complemented by upcoming ecotourism and smart agriculture projects.
