Nine-day rail journeys from Bangkok to Chiang Mai include butler service and cultural stops
Thailand will launch a new luxury rail experience this November when The Blue Jasmine, a beautifully restored 1960s sleeper train, makes its maiden nine-day journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.
Operated by DTH Travel, the inaugural departure is scheduled for 16 November 2025, with fares starting at AED27,600 per person.
Across the nine days, travellers spend two nights aboard the Blue Jasmine train itself, with the remaining nights in heritage or boutique hotels along the route.
The itinerary takes passengers through five provinces, blending slow train travel with stops designed to highlight Thai culture and history.
In Ayutthaya, travellers trade the bustle of Bangkok for a quiet lunch beside a lotus pond, followed by a tuk-tuk ride among the city’s Unesco-listed temples. Uthai Thani offers a more spiritual interlude, where guests present morning offerings to monks and visit the shimmering Crystal and Golden Temples.
In Chiang Mai, highlights include meeting elephants at an ethical sanctuary and dining farm-to-table at a secluded mountaintop retreat.
The final leg in Sukhothai pairs guided exploration of the Unesco-listed ruins with hands-on craft workshops in pottery and goldsmithing.
The train itself brings history to the journey. Originally configured as a Japanese sleeper train in the 1960s, it has been restored and refitted for contemporary comfort.

Ten carriages house three cabin types — classic, premium and premium suites — accommodating just 37 passengers in total. Each comes with double beds and wide windows, with either shared or private bathrooms.
All-inclusive fares cover accommodation, guided excursions, most meals and transfers. After its launch, the train will operate six more departures in 2026, across January, February, March, July, November and December.
Prices begin at 195,000 Thai baht (£4,436) per person for a classic cabin based on double occupancy, rising to 310,000 baht (£7,052) for the premium suite, including butler service.
Among other luxury train experiences, the Eastern & Oriental Express between Bangkok and Singapore offers multi-day journeys across Southeast Asia and is famed for its elegant suites, panoramic views and fine dining.
