Three weekly flights connect Muscat with the northeast African city
Oman’s low-cost carrier, SalamAir, has launched a new non-stop service between Muscat and Port Sudan, marking the GCC’s first direct air link between the sultanate and Port Sudan, a port city in northeast Africa. The new connection responds to growing “travel demand” between the two countries, with the inaugural flight on 27 January departing Muscat International Airport (MCT) at full capacity, signalling strong interest in the route.
Operated by an Airbus A320neo with 180 all-economy seats, the four-hour service connects the Omani capital with Sudan’s Red Sea gateway three times per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Fares start from OMR69.99 (AED670) one-way under SalamAir’s Lite fare category.
The flight departs Muscat at 06:40 and arrives at Port Sudan New International Airport (PZU) at 08:30, with the return service leaving PZU at 09:20 and landing back in Muscat at 14:30.
Located on Sudan’s northeastern coastline, Port Sudan is an emerging Red Sea destination known for its pristine coral reefs, historic dive sites and unspoiled beaches. Visitors can also explore the city’s bustling port district and local markets.

Steven Allen, Chief Commercial Officer of SalamAir, said the new route reflects the airline’s “targeted and commercially driven approach to network expansion”, enhancing connectivity between the Middle East and Northeast Africa.
The addition of Port Sudan continues SalamAir’s ongoing growth strategy across international and regional markets. The airline recently announced plans to launch a Muscat–Vienna service in June 2026 – another first for Oman – and expanded its regional network with new flights linking Muscat and Abha in Saudi Arabia.
SalamAir now serves more than 40 destinations, connecting key Omani hubs including Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Duqm, Masirah and Khasab with major cities across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and operates seasonal summer services to destinations, including European cities Sarajevo and Istanbul.
As part of its long-term development plan, the carrier aims to establish a new operational base in Salalah by 2028 and expand its fleet to 25 aircraft.
