Close to 80% say their plans focus on low‑stress breaks
Travellers are heading into 2026 with a clear goal: to relax more and rush less, according to a new Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) survey. The study, conducted by YouGov for NCL, shows that holidaymakers increasingly want trips that are simple, stress-free and shaped around how they feel each day.
More than half of respondents said they plan to embrace more mindful, intentional travel this year, moving away from packed itineraries and ‘must‑see’ lists. Almost 80% are prioritising low‑stress experiences, while 86% want quality time away from everyday distractions.
Many are willing to skip sightseeing altogether, with more than 60% saying they would be happy to trade a full day of activities for uninterrupted rest.
Flexibility is a key theme, with four in five respondents saying they want the freedom to decide what to do each day once they’re actually on holiday. That means fewer rigid schedules and more space to slow down, relax and make plans at their own pace, when it suits them.
When it comes to who they travel with, more than 40% are planning trips with a partner or spouse for quality time together. Family travel remains strong, with 30% organising multi-generational holidays, and one in 10 planning friend getaways focused on shared experiences and relaxation.

Marc Kazlauskas, President at NCL, said this shift in traveller behaviour plays directly to what the brand already delivers. “Mindful and intentional travel is more than a trend; it’s a long‑lasting shift toward meaningful experiences. Travellers want the freedom to design their own journey, and with NCL, every detail is curated to make that possible.”
As travellers look for trips that give them room to slow down, NCL’s onboard experience is designed to support that shift. The line emphasises flexibility – from unhurried daily programming to dine‑when‑you‑like restaurants – so guests can decide each day whether they want to be active, sociable or simply switch off.
For those planning ahead during Wave Season, there are also added booking incentives. NCL’s current offers include its Second Guest Sails Free deal across all cruises, which can be combined with the Free at Sea package that bundles a drinks package, Wi‑Fi, speciality dining and shore excursion credits, plus free airfare for the second guest on select sailings.
